Bird – Enrique Eyebeam
Animal imagery, especially in folk art and book illustration has long been a major influence in Elyse Harrison’s art.
These hand-formed plaster-based sculptures typically measure between 10 and 15 inch in height or width and are embellished with ink and acrylics. The same techniques are occasionally applied to sculptures of other animals and of people, yet the wings, beaks and rounded bodies of birds provide an endless source of inspiration. Unique components are implemented in this work, often found in antique shops, hardware stores, bead shops, salvage yards or flea markets.
It’s a fun, fascinating way to design keeping her ‘cabinets of curiosity’ filled with potential. All works come signed and ready to hang. The Bird House Collection The Bird House Collection retains the enduring theme of invented bird imagery which Elyse Harrison has produced since the late 1990’s. The intrinsic beauty of hand drawn blue prints, a process that has been replaced by computer aided drawings, is one of the key attractive elements for these petite sculptures. In addition, the art features vintage glass Christmas tree lightbulbs which are implemented as beaks.
