It transforms New York City’s undesirable grocery bags into a unique and durable textile, hand-woven in Manhattan. And, unlike many recycled products, it’s super-chic.

Say:: “Hello, penthouse suite, please” to our friends at the Made - one of Business Insider’s Top 4 New Hotels in NYC -  the beautiful Beaux Arts James, and the Royalton, complete with its rooftop pool bar. 8. LITTLE CHURCH OF THE TRANSFIGURATION

In the midst of the crazy city energy, this peaceful, flower-filled garden is a special place to find a moment's peace. Founded in 1848, the church was a stop on the Underground Railroad, was one of the first churches in the city to perform funerals for actors - who were shunned at the time. And it celebrated the first same-sex wedding in the Diocese of New York in July 2012.

9. MARBLE COLLEGIATE

The lovely church across the street from MAISON 10 is even older - with roots dating back to 1628. It’s worth a visit, if only to check out the stunning Tiffany windows and one of the only indoor, walkable labyrinths in the city. It’s also notable for hosting some famous weddings, including Liza Minnelli and David Gest, with Liz Taylor and Michael Jackson as the maid of honor and best man. And how’s this for a political powerhouse union - Julie Nixon, Richard Nixon’s daughter, also tied the knog with David Eisenhower, the grandson of Dwight Eisenhower, at Marble.

10. MARTINEZ CIGARS

A true New York classic, this store doesn’t just sell cigars, it’s been hand-rolling them on the premises since 1974. The tradition was started by the founder Antonio Genaro Martinez, known to everyone as Don Antonio, who emigrated to the city from the tiny town of Tamboríl in the Dominican Republic. These days, they also specialize in custom cigar bands for special occasions, like the birth of a baby.
