About Julia Rivera:
Painter, sculptor, ceramicist, and restorer of masterworks, Julia Rivera makes art that refuses to sit still. Her canvases pulse with fearless color and an inner rhythm all their own, and her playful, irreverent imagery has won over collectors around the world.
Born in the Bronx in 1965, Rivera built her artistic foundation across continents. She studied at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Art Education. She went on to complete her MA in 17th-century painting and restoration at Studio Arts College International (SACI) in Florence, with further study in sculpture at the Art League of Manhattan, the New York Art Studio, and a study trip to the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Her restoration work first made her name, but it is her own art that has taken her furthest: her pieces now live in permanent collections in Texas, Madrid, and Paris.
Drawing on Gorky, Miró, Chagall, and Matta, and fully fluent in three decades of "lite" neo-figuration, Rivera blends humor and poetry into scenes where the everyday and the metaphysical swap secrets about time and the human condition.
"A good work of art does not let us know everything." Like Mallarmé's ideal poem, Rivera's work trusts in magic and mystery, and leaves the best part for you to discover.
