About the real-life David Kass:
A New York City native who started planting flowers in empty tree pits along 6th Avenue out of frustration with litter. He uses his own money and time to maintain the gardens, which he calls his "babies". His project has been featured on news programs like The Today Show and has inspired others to get involved.
