About Brooks Burns:
Brooks Burns creates hard-edge abstract paintings that exist in dynamic tension between Minimalism and Maximalism. His geometric compositions reference minimalist traditions through their crisp forms and deliberate structures, yet his bold, vibrant palette allows the work to flourish equally in maximalist environments. A graduate of The College of Charleston where he studied Studio Art and Art History with a focus on painting and printmaking, Burns moved to New York in 2009, where the city's endless interplay of form, texture, and color continues to fuel his creative vision. Making his debut at MAISON 10, Burns presents work that honors the past while speaking confidently to the future.
Burns has built his practice through collaboration with leading designers, art consultants, and collectors, creating bespoke paintings for both residential and commercial settings. His work enhances luxury interiors by acclaimed designers including Ashe Leandro and Kelly Hurliman, and has been installed in five Kimpton Hotel properties. Recent exhibitions include the Dixon Museum (2023) and New York's iconic Bergdorf Goodman (2024). Burns develops detailed renderings for clients before beginning each full-scale painting, ensuring that every piece serves as a carefully considered focal point tailored to elevate its specific environment.
About Brooks Burns:
I create hard edge abstract paintings that juxtapose Minimalism and Maximalism - many of the geometric shapes that I paint reference Minimalism, but my palette makes my work look just as “at home” in a Maximalist setting. I love making both figurative and abstract work; both styles nod to the past and speak to the future in a way that is all their own.
I majored in Studio Art and Art History at The College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina, where the majority of my work was focused around painting and printmaking. I moved to New York in 2009, and I am inspired by the seemingly limitless marriages of form, texture, and color that I see here daily.
I work with designers, art consultants, and collectors, creating paintings for both residential and commercial settings. My work complements luxurious homes designed by some of the country's most renowned designers, including Ashe Leandro and Kelly Hurliman, and it can also be found in commercial spaces. I have created art for five Kimpton Hotel properties, and my work has been featured in shows at the Dixon Museum (2023) and New York's iconic Bergdorf Goodman (2024).
The majority of my work is commissioned and collaborative. I create renderings for potential clients before starting on a full size painting so that they know at the beginning of the process what the piece will look like in their home or business. The result is a bespoke focal point that will elevate any space.
