You're always asking us for our latest recommendations - which is what inspired the first of our 10 Little Treasures series back in bad old 2020 (remember then?).
And, because New York changes faster than the lights on the Empire State Building, there's always something new and buzz-worthy on our radar. So welcome, friend, to the spring 2024 remix... we'd love to know what else you'd add to the list.
1. ALL IN A NEW YORK MINUTE
A mind-blowing, immersive art experience featuring a decade of work by street artist Alex Smetsky - a journey from vandal to visionary. This is an unmissable New York moment that is so much more than simply art.
2. CLAMP ART
Two truly stunning artists are showing at our W29th St neighbors Clamp Art. We can't recommend the beautifully erotic works of AdeY and Bruce Sargent (Mark Beard) enough. These are not your average nudes - and we're here for all of it. Do those bottoms look familiar to you?
3. MADE HOTEL
You may already be familiar with the work of Tina Psoinos and her Fight Like a Girl series. But she has a very different collection of new work now at the Made Hotel on W29th St - between Broadway and 6th Avenue. Keeping her large-scale abstract pieces company are sculptures by Kipp Miller, breathing new life into found wedges of wood in rural New Hampshire.
4. PAT DUNIGAN
Dunigan's background in advertising - traveling the world to shoot commercials - has left her with plenty of time to flick through magazines in airport lounges. That spark has led to a colorful series of abstract collages, exploring shapes and colors of torn paper, having them clash and collide until they find their right place. These beauties are currently on show at the Royalton Park Avenue.
5. KATE FAUVELL
The fabulous Kate Fauvell is hosting her debut solo show at Urbana Cafe and Gallery in Chelsea. Kate has a habit of taking pictures to document and comprehend the world we live in. She then uses these photos to design photo-based collage paintings. But instead of using a paintbrush, she replaces it with torn pieces of photographs, perfectly illustrating the constant change New York is going through. Also, the coffee here is pretty great.
6. THE PORTAL
Some naughty people caused The Portal at Flatiron to be closed for a little while. But now you've all put your clothes back on, it's open again (though for limited hours). Not just a piece of sculpture, it provides a live stream to the streets of Dublin (and back to NY again). Do it for the gram!
7. THIS IS OUR STREET
Our latest collection is a celebration of the color and creativity of New York's incredible street artists. An explosion of vibrant creativity, this is already one of our bestselling cycles yet - and were just one day in. Come see us soon.
8. MADISON SQUARE PARK
We are so insanely lucky to have Madison Square Park as our back yard. Not only does it have the city's best dog park, it's also home to a stunning public art program. The latest exhibition is Seed by Rose B Simpson, running simultaneously at Inwood Hill Park. Seven 18-foot-high sentinels in weathered steel and bronze gather in a circle surrounding a female form emerging from the earth. There will be a range of free events to mark this very special work.
9. ROOFTOP SEASON
Yes, you gorgeous human. It is now officially rooftop season - that perfect time of year when the temperature is warm enough to be outside, but not so unbearable you need to carry a sweat rag and a bottle of Off everywhere you go. And,hello - VIEWS! Our neighborhood favorites are the Arlo Nomad, which has just had a little facelift and is looking hotter than ever; the Made, with its yummy urban garden aesthetic; and the Royalton Park Avenue, complete with pool and happy hour martinis. Yay summer!
10. PRIDE
Rainbows, and sparkles, and heels, oh my! June, of course, is Pride month ... and there will be a ton of other parades, plus open streets events, fairs, and more. And did you know you can apply to your local fire house to fit a hydrant with a spray cap just for fun? Let's party!
